De Bremer Straatmuzikanten (6+)

Holland Opera & Duda Paiva Company

Tickets

De Bremer Straatmuzikanten takes you on a wild, musical journey with four unique outcasts. Meet an abandoned donkey, a hoarse rooster that doesn't like to crow and prefers to dance, an old dog bursting with energy, and a cat that has left the mouse hunt behind. They seem to get nowhere on their own, but by combining their strengths, they form a musical, adventurous band: the Bremen Misfit Band.

In a factory where everything runs like clockwork, it turns out that the new technology is not meant for everyone. The donkey (accordion) is too old and cannot keep up with the technology. The bosses of the factory decide that it's time for his retirement. But the donkey thinks otherwise. He escapes and flees into the wide world.

In a tiny, enclosed field sits a busy, playful dog (saxophone) who must constantly follow the rules set by his owner. If the dog does not listen, he gets punished. The donkey convinces him that a free life as a street musician is much more fun. They continue together. Along the way, they meet a rooster (violin) who refuses to crow and prefers to dance to his own rhythm. The donkey and dog take the rooster under their wings. And when they also encounter a cat with a war trauma, the quartet is complete.

Despite their own quirks, they find the right musical tone together and decide to form the Bremen Misfit Band. Let yourself be surprised by this cheerful spectacle for the whole family!

Workshop & reading table LocHal

Help build the animal tower of Bremen!

Schouwburg & Concertzaal Tilburg and the LocHal Library are jointly organising a creative workshop based on The Bremen Town Musicians.

On 28 February, design your own ‘discarded’ animal together with artist Hoi-Shan Mak — an animal ready for a new, colourful life. Together you will build a large animal tower, growing creature by creature through creativity and imagination.

Reading table in LocHal Library
Are you curious about the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale on which the performance and workshop are based? Then take a look in February at the special book table in the Youth Department of the LocHal Library and borrow one of the beautiful fairy‑tale books.

To keep looking at with your mouth open in amazement.
