Gert Gering

I spy with my little eye something that you have not seen before.

Our programmers highlight three unique experiences that broaden your perspective on theatre. Evenings that you do not only see, but feel: surprising, innovative and nowhere else to be experienced in this way as here.
In our programme you will find much that you recognise, but we also want to surprise you, challenge you and move you in a completely new way. That is why our programmers are pleased to share three performances that are just different from what you expect. Not a standard evening in the auditorium, but experiences that place you right in the moment.

Gert Gering

Music programmer Gert Gering highlights a special experience during the Happy Bach Day. At Bach in the Dark you listen in complete darkness to the string quartet Marsyas Baroque: four top musicians from Germany. By taking away the light, only the music remains: intense, intimate and almost tangible. “You listen to the music in darkness, which allows you to listen very intensively. I also always find those kinds of things very enjoyable to experience.”

Furthermore, Gert is also looking forward to Project Amsterdam with Jeanine de Bique. “Jeanine has an incredible presence and her personality is enormously engaging. The previous time, she asked the audience to put their phones away in order to truly be in the moment. I did secretly take photos. I had these photos framed and gave them to her. She appreciated that immensely and it therefore became a very special moment.”

Gert also recommends the Halloween Concert by the Brabant Chamber Orchestra. The event has been organised several times before and is now almost becoming a tradition. “What you can expect is an adapted repertoire, an orchestra in costume, and perhaps we will also ask the audience whether they would like to dress up as well.”

Gwen Sengers

For Gwen Sengers, programmer theatre & youth, Time Machine by HNTJong and Theater Utrecht is the must-see for teenagers. As an audience, you do not sit in the auditorium, but inside the performance: on the stage, among the actors. You become a witness to an incident during a school party and unravel the story from within. It literally takes place at your feet.

The stage play Ratatata will also be very special, according to Gwen. The performance combines the genre of theatre with cabaret. “This means that in the play we will see real cabaret stars, namely Theo Maasen, Ilse Waringa and Plien & Bianco. Then you simply know that the humour and contact with the audience are going to be fantastically great.”

Another performance that Gwen recommends is Meiden en Prinsen by Het Filiaal. Every other year, this theatre company creates a large-scale production. The previous production, The Neverending Story, was a tremendous success. “This year, I believe it will be another success with the performance Meiden en Prinsen, based on the books by Annette Schaap. It really is a beautiful story. Full of fantasy, empathy and imagination.”

Anne Rosenau

Programmeur cabaret, musical, circus & show Anne Rosenau chooses Mythos: Ragnarök, an energetic, humorous and bold mix of theatre and wrestling. The actors push themselves physically to the limit, sometimes so close that you can almost smell the sweat. “This makes the performance unique, because normally there is no wrestling during a performance. It is truly hilarious and definitely worth attending.”

The performance Don’t Despair by Panama Pictures is, according to Anne, also highly recommended. “This performance is a bit tougher and more exciting. What is nice is that circus is actually such a broad genre. People sometimes see circus as something a bit dull, but it can be incredibly exciting and special. It is often also ‘language no problem’, so you can go with anyone. It is accessible for young and old, from grandparents to small children. And this circus performance by Panama Pictures is also going to be extremely exciting; people climb on unusual constructions and everything moves.”

Anne also recommends the musical Titanique, a kind of parody of the story of the Titanic, in which, of course, the songs of Celine Dion are also featured. “There are very few parody musicals, so that is why this performance is truly recommended.”
