F*CK LOLITA

Tickets

How does a young woman discover her sexuality? And who gets to tell that story? Director Silke van Kamp has a fascination for Nabokov's scandalous novel Lolita from 1955, where a young woman’s journey of discovery into sexual fantasies and yearnings is taken away from her.

For decades, Lolita has been portrayed as a romanticized object of desire, and numerous versions of her story have appeared. After 70 years, Silke radically flips Nabokov's literary classic inside out and reshapes the story in F*CK LOLITA from a female perspective. Lolita steps out of the cage of objectification and reclaims her story and body. Not as a victim of abuse, but as someone who fights her way out of the grasp of the male perspective.

With text by Annet Bremen (nominated for the Theater Writers Award 2023), F*CK LOLITA creates a whimsical, meaningful, and complex duet between Lolita and Humbert Humbert. Lolita reclaims her artwork: about herself, as herself.

Fantastic theatre performance! A sharp, powerful monologue in which the twelve-year-old Dolores (Lolita) is portrayed by an incomparable Keja Klaasje Kwestro.

NRC

A thundering one-woman symphony; a complex portrait of a woman who reclaims her story. As funny as it is devastating.

de Volkskrant

Lolita claims her voice in phenomenal theatre. Keja Klaasje Kwestro is magnificent as Lolita and demands attention with her often funny, but above all layered performance.

Theaterkrant

The performance, with an excellent text by Annet Bremen, is a funnel in which you are gradually carried along. At the beginning we laugh a lot, but towards the end our hair stands on end.

Podium Reviews

Director Silke van Kamp and writer Annet Bremen firmly seize Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita from 1955 by the scruff of the neck.
