After the successful revival of audience favourite Clowns (2016) in 2024, choreographer Hofesh Shechter once again joins NDT for a raw and daring world premiere. Shechter is known for works that expose what lies beneath the surface—both within ourselves and in the world around us. The tension between identity and the perception of mind and body often forms a central thread.

In his new work for NDT 1, dreamlike scenes unfold alongside sudden flashes of reality, as the dancers push their physical limits.
"Your mind is a flickering light that has forgotten its source, where thoughts collide and contradict each other," says Shechter. Grand yet intimate, filled with intense physicality and pulsing music, this promises to be a surreal journey that fully draws you in.

We return to the mysterious The Missing Door (2013), created by choreographer Gabriela Carrizo for NDT 1. Set in an unsettling domestic space that slowly transforms, the boundaries between reality and illusion begin to blur. Everyday actions morph into suffocating situations, where emotional fractures in the characters grow ever larger.

Carrizo explains: “The work shows a no-man’s-land where reality and fantasy become increasingly intertwined. A place where the final moments of a life become visible, hovering between life and death.”

The Missing Door is a dramatic and gripping theatrical experience, and we are honoured to bring this work back to the stage.
